Gary’s art is very crisp throughout most of the comic, though the BP panel is a bit messy, which of course works in a way, but even the other pollution-laden panels still have a crispness to them, a clarity. Some shading on the octopus might work as it almost looks like an insignia and not an actual octopus that’s supposed to be outside the port hole, no? Otherwise, I’m really digging his art in this one, the details, etc.
I like the idea the Nemo/Mark! is trying to escape and just can’t as that’s your life or maybe mine too. Regarding the last panel, I’m not sure what’s going on. Is the captain selling the Nautilus to the highest bidder? to make a ton of money and there become a part of the imperialistic world he’d sought to escape?
This one is funny, and it works overall. A couple of thoughts:
The punchline is funny, but I agree with Hard that it’s not entirely clear what Nemo is doing in p6. That’s not really an issue, but it does cause me to laugh and then say, “wait…what…”
Gary’s art is great, but in this and other comics that have lots of detail or depth of field, things get a little hard to differentiate. I think part of the problem is that you have a bad scan. To me, the blacks are a bit gray/fuzzy. This can be cleaned up in photoshop with adjustments to the contrast or the blacks. In addition, this one would benefit greatly from more grays or color, because then details and depth would be clearer. Obviously, all those things add time.
I think the font you used for the title is perfect, except that it’s hard to read. Again, this might be remedied by color. In addition, I’d make the panel lettering larger.
Given your love of the sea, I wanna see more Nemo-Mark!
