Admittedly, I picked up this comic because I thought it was about an adolescent girl from Long Island, who wears bunny ears, plays D&D, and plans to defend her home from…you guessed it: giants. While, technically, this is what the comic is about, it is so much more. JM Ken Niimura provides stetchy B&W illustrations for what turns about to be a tale of an outcast girl struggling with a tragic family secret while enduring all the machinations school has to offer. Powerful and profound, it totally caught me off guard. Highly recommended for those trying to deal with impending family loss, especially kids.

I’d gotten the last issue from a friend and liked the visual design of it but couldn’t much figure out the story other than that I wanted to know what had come before, so I’ll definitely check the full volume out sometime. Is it sort of like a Sam Kieth story but that makes sense more easily?
